I recently came across the work of fashion illustrator Inslee Haynes. It is clear that Haynes has a true talent in identifying and capturing of the moment fashion trends in her watercolor and ink sketches. Not to mention, I absolutely love the idea of having these high end fashion sketches hanging in my closet or anywhere I choose, even if I can't afford the items themselves. She also has personalized stationery and calendars which you can check out on her website.

TINY BITS OF TRUTH
CLEAN YOUR SLATE.
In the April issue of Lonny Magazine there is an incredible article with designer Amanda Nisbet that I encourage everyone to take a look at. One of the great things she reminds us all to do is to embrace our strengths. She goes on to say that for years she would dismiss friends and family who suggested she pursue a career in interior design because it came so easily to her. When she finally did become a professional designer, success and creative fulfillment both resulted. Just another reminder to be in tune and listen to what your natural abilities are telling you. They are called strengths for a reason, and often times we take anything that comes easy or naturally for granted. This was something that was also brought up at the Blogging Your Way workshop I blogged about last month. Holly Becker asked all of us to answer the question, what am I effortlessly good at? What do I do that comes absolutely effortless that other people wonder how you do it with such ease? Take a few minutes to think about that in your own lives.
Something that particularly resonated with me during the Blogging Your Way class was Holly's suggestion of "weeding our garden" referencing the need to remove negative and toxic things in our own lives. It was a much needed reminder to take time to examine our own lives first in order to determine what inspires us and why.
One of the best metaphors for the process of "weeding your garden" that Holly mentioned is that of the oxygen mask in an airplane.

When was the last time you "cleaned your slate"? Take a minute to think about the negative things in your life that are causing problems or holding you back and what you can do realistically to change those things!

THERE'S NO TIME...NEVER ANY TIME?
Remember back to Saved by the Bell and Jesse having her mini-meltdown screaming there's no time, well how often do you feel that way? I know I certainly have the problem of feeling like where does the day go, and for that matter, where did the past week go. I came across a really incredible article in the Wall Street Journal addressing the issue of time and how to better think about your own personal time or lack there of. She breaks it down into the fact that each and every one of us has the same amount of hours per week.
Laura Vanderkam reiterates this message in the article and again, reminds us that it really is not so much that we don't have enough time, but rather a matter of what is most important to us that we are making time for. So often we don't even realize how much wasted time we spend making sure others around us know just how busy we are and how little time we have. It seems counterproductive to have to reassure yourself and others that yes you are in fact busy and if you have a few minutes to take out of your precious day then you'll try to squeeze in that coffee with a friend, or reply to an email or whatever it is in your own personal life. Let's be honest though, I could ALWAYS be too busy to get my oil changed, or clean out my closet, or read Harry Potter (I admit, I have ZERO interest in those books!). So rather than making excuse after excuse, wouldn't it be liberating to just come right out and say that you won't be making it to book club because you didn't want to read the book and don't want to feel out of the loop when everyone else is discussing the novel, rather than saying you've just been too busy to read the book but will definitely read the book for next month's meeting, when in fact, you have zero intention of opening the book for next month either? Then you're just setting yourself for feeling pressure, guilt and all sorts of anxiety leading up to the moment when you've once again not read your book and are coming up with another "I was so busy" excuse? Trust me, I've been there, done that and it's so much easier to just come right out and be honest about your priorities and what is top of your list, what is never going to be on your list, and what you will one day if you have absolutely nothing else in the world to do might get to on that to-do list. Hope this is helpful for some of ya'll and I know for me I am working on doing a better job of tracking where and how I spend my time, and being honest with myself and others about the real reason I can't seem to squeeze a certain task into my jam-packed schedule for the day.
FIVE THINGS I LOVE ABOUT APRIL.
Well a few days behind in posting, but hope your April is off to a fabulous start! I have to admit, I am loving the changing of the seasons here in New York. I don't think we truly have a real four seasons in Texas, definitely not as drastic as they are in the northeast. Although, it certainly wasn't what most New Yorkers would refer to as a true winter here, you can see signs of spring all around the city these days and I am LOVING it.
Spring is definitely here and so many wonderful things to love about April. Just a few of my favorites are listed above, and I'm particularly excited about the beautiful Virginia Johnson prints on Stampa, aren't they just fabulous? Opening day of baseball is also something to look forward to, and it just so happens to be TODAY. I grew up with both brothers playing baseball and swore I would never watch another game in my life after all the tournaments I went to over the years. Well, I was wrong and have once again found myself excited for this time of year and the start of baseball season...plus, after visiting Citi Field for a Mets game, trust me, there is so much more to enjoy about a baseball game than the actual game, pretzels and beer anyone? Yes please! What do you love about April? Any specific things you are looking forward to this month?

CATCHING UP & FUNNY LINKS.
Hope ya'll are having a good start to your week and APRIL! A ton of things to post about so bear with me while I finish them up and slowly post them on here... but until then, quite possibly one of the most annoying/awesome things I say OVER and OVER when frustrated is that "I'm going to punch X (insert whatever it is that is frustrating me) in the face". Seems so much better once you say that to ANY situation, and when I came across this I had to share, hope you are getting stuff done on this Tuesday!
Also wanted to share one of the funniest/greatest tumblr sites I have ever seen that has been circulating the web the past few weeks and is definitely worth taking a look at, check it out and see below for just one funny example from the tumblr: What Should We Call Me. Oh and you can find a great article on Forbes no less on the two best friend law students who created the tumblr. Enjoy!
