NEIMAN MARCUS + TARGET HOLIDAY PREVIEW

The {fabulous} Neiman Marcus + Target preview has arrived!  Target partnered with Neiman Marcus and 24 CFDA Designers this year on a 50-piece limited-edition holiday collection officially launching in both Target and Neiman Marcus on December 1st.  Thankfully, images from all 50 pieces in the collection have been released and I had to share with ya'll a few of my favorites.  Prices for the designer collaboration start at $8 and go up to $500, but thankfully most items are under $60, meaning you won't break the bank!  The collection has quite an impressive designer line-up including Judith Leiber, Marchesa, Tracy Reese, Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Alice + Olivia, Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg and more... making it the ultimate in designer collaborations for the 2012, in my opinion of course! If you haven't already, you should definitely head on over to Shopbop and stock up on those fall favorites and items on your wish list during their friends and family sale going on right now through tomorrow evening...It is the perfect opportunity to finally purchase those fabulous booties you've been eyeing for weeks now or if you're really on top of things, do some early (early!) holiday shopping.  I've been dying over these boots, the perfect burgundy clutch, and this amazing scarf. I'm also thinking it's the perfect time to stock up on my favorites, including these genetic denim jeans.

NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OLIVE BOX.

Treat Yo' Self.. yes, I'm guilty of gifting myself (you know, To: Me, From: Me gifts!) more often than I should, and well the latest gift to myself I just had to share with ya'll.  Olive Box, founded by Grace Kang of the fabulous NYC store Pink Olive, is a recently launched subscription service for paper lovers  (I told ya'll this was too good to share!).  Based on the joy and love of good ole' snail mail, Olive Box is meant to share the love of "snail mail and paper goods of all kinds" and to reinvigorate the love over "beautiful, handwritten letters and receiving a physical gift in the mail."  I couldn't agree more with this philosophy and am so excited to receive my first Olive Box in the mail in the coming weeks. Hello, paper goodies delivered to my mailbox every month, sign me up! It really doesn't get much better than that in my book! And on a side note, a quick reminder the holidays are just around the corner, and this would be a fabulous gift idea for the paper lover on your list!

I am in love with the cooler weather the past few days, aren't ya'll?  It definitely has me eyeing several key pieces for fall, and I'm pretty excited to see cobalt, royal blue, electric blue, whatever you want to call it, is a must-have to add a pop of color to your fall wardrobe. I first wrote about this pop of color in the cobalt & coral post for spring fashion, and what's really great about this bright blue is that it can easily carry over from one season to another with just a few minor adjustments, making life much easier for us all! I really have my eye on these fabulous Diane von Furstenberg heels, in love with them!

HAPPY WEEKEND!

Happiest of weekends to ya'll! Hope you're enjoying a fabulous & relaxing Saturday afternoon! A few favorites I've come across this week:
  • Have ya'll heard of the new site decorBase? You must go check it out and sign up to become notified when the site is up and running.  It's truly a genius concept making it a one stop shop for all of your home decorating needs.  You can read a little more about decorBase over the amazing blog, Peppermint Bliss.
  • Loving this fall skirt by Maje, isn't it perfect for the cooler weather?
  • I had to share this article, because who would ever have thought that a Postman from Waco, Texas (my hometown) would be designing Hermes scarves, I had no idea!
  • As part of the All-Star Reunion Blowout week, Good Morning America's Rachel Smith talks with the cast of Clueless and looks back over the past 17 years since the hit movie's release. On that note, um, has it really been 17 years, oh my goodness-and even more importantly, why have we not figured out a way to create Cher's closet and outfit system in 17 years? I mean her closet was amazing!

ONE YEAR...


HAPPY ONE YEAR IN NYC TO ME (and Boo Radley too, of course!).   I can't believe I did not realize that my one year anniversary as a NYC resident was several weeks ago.  To be honest, I completely forgot about it with my mom being in town and a few other things going on...it just hit me this weekend that I have lived here over a year now!  WOW and what a year it has been. I'm so thankful for the amazing experiences I've had this first year in New York, and for all of the wonderful friends I've made so far.  I could never have predicted in my wildest dreams the past year to turn out the way it did but I'm immensely grateful for each and every experience life has thrown my way.  I also believe now more than ever that with each new experience there comes a chance to learn a lesson or something about yourself and the world around you.  That certainly is the case here in New York, because every single day, without fail, I see something new.  It's really quite interesting to think what used to make me stop in my tracks to take another look no longer warrants a second glance anymore.   For me, that is one of Manhattan's biggest allures, and often the biggest drawback for those outside the city. There is something I've come to love about the day-to-day craziness, and the belief that truly anything can happen in this city, and quite often it does!

I absolutely love this article by Brett Nelson titled "Fifty Important Lessons New York City Taught Me." Such a great read and definitely recommend it to anyone who currently lives in NYC or is thinking about making the move here.  Another good article to take a look is Goodbye To All That by Joan Didion

Looking forward to what the next year brings in NYC and if you're ever on the fence about moving to NYC or really just outside of your comfort zone to try something new, I would say DO IT.   Don't wait.  You could convince yourself forever that you'll never have enough time, money, friends living in the city, job opportunities, whatever the excuse, they are all just that...excuses.  As the inspirational Randy Pausch, once said, "The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They are there to stop the other people." If you want it badly enough, you'll figure out a way to make it happen, whether that is moving cities or not is something only you know, but the reality is that if you want to move, then move, because I can guarantee you it will be worth it and change your perspective on life allowing you to see the world through a different, larger, lens.  I'm working on a list of my NYC favorites for anyone who is visiting and in need of recommendations, make sure to check back in a few weeks and hopefully I'll have it posted by then!

GEEK CHIC MUST HAVES

With the number of geek chic items on my wish list rapidly growing, it only seemed appropriate to quit hoarding these fabulous finds for myself and share them with ya'll this Wednesday afternoon.  All of these on my list make your world just a little easier in one way or another and for that reason alone, they're worth investing in if you ask me.  

I have to tell ya'll about my favorites from this list.  I've been a fan of Evernote for over a year now, so you can only imagine the excitement when I recently heard about the new Evernote Smart Notebook by Moleskin. This amazing collaboration uses Evernote's Page Camera feature to capture the pages of your Moleskin notebook with your smartphone or tablet, instantly transforming anything you write, sketch or draw in the notebook to digital format allowing you to save it, search it, and share it with the world.  

Another lifesaving invention is the PowerStick. Next time you're about to have a total mental breakdown because your lifeline (aka iPhone or Blackberry) has run out of juice, just take a deep breath and calmly reach into your purse to pull out the amazing PowerStick.  The PowerStick, roughly the size of a stick of gum easily fitting into the smallest of clutches for your nights out, aims to replace all of your chargers with this one convenient power source, and is a lifesaver if you ask me.

Get It Now by Postmates is a genius app, which I will be downloading as soon as it becomes available in NYC, but highly recommend for those of you currently in San Francisco.  Basically, you can get anything delivered to you in under an hour.  Delivery fees start from $5 and up, with services available 16 hours a day, 7 days a week...now that's what I can the perfect lazy person app, incredible!

HELLO, OCTOBER!

Hello, October.. show me what you've got! October brings with it the cooler temperatures, the actual changing of the leaves here in NYC (one of the MAJOR perks of living in the northeast...you actually get to experience four true seasons, and I absolutely love it!), Halloween-which as a true candy aficionado means I can find just about all of my favorites in "fun size" perfect to throw in my purse (just in case I get the sugar urge while out and about, you just never know), and finally, Halloween has to be Boo Radley's favorite holiday of the year-I mean she does happen to be white, fluffy, and named Boo... this holiday screams her name.  Judge all you want, but I'm the first to admit I love dressing Boo Radley up for Halloween-she's been a hippo, taco, and ballerina...and I'm looking for the perfect costume for this year, which I'll make sure to share with ya'll once I find it! If ya'll have a pet, do you dress them up for Halloween? If so, would love to hear your ideas for costumes! 

I will spare ya'll the details of where I've been the month of September and why I didn't keep up my regular daily posts on the B-L-O-G, and just say that I'll give an update when I get the post on this finished and edited down to ensure I don't bore you so much so that you never come back and visit the site again, now that would be a shame wouldn't it? What I will do is say that while I have every intention of posting once a day on the weekdays, there will be days when that just doesn't happen. It doesn't mean I've given up blogging, in fact it's quite the opposite.  Simply put- life happens and sometimes I'd rather go out and live my life than sit down and type away on the computer thinking about the life I want to live.  Does that make any sense ? I often wish I could be two places at once, both at my computer finishing my to-do lists while also outside breathing in this gorgeous fall weather on a leisurely walk with a close friend and Boo Radley...that would be the best of both worlds, wouldn't it?

I couldn't welcome in October without mentioning my guilty pleasure and very favorite show, Gossip Girl, kicks off the show's final season Monday, October 8th, at 9 p.m. ET. If you're anything like me, you will want to check out this trailer for the final season.
